ASB Installation Banquet

This past week I hosted my final ASB Banquet. As the current ASB President, I was the mistress of ceremonies and I passed on the gavel to Taylor Freeman. It was a long evening (3.5 hours), but a very special evening. ASB has provided some of my best friends and it has been the highlight of my high school career. I've included my farewell address if you'd like to read it.

I can’t think of enough words to describe this year. It has been jam-packed exciting, stressfully hectic, fantastically fun, momentarily frustrating, and more than anything: an experience that I will treasure for the rest of my life. ASB has been so meaningful not because of the many events, although they were amazing, but because of the people. You have all become my dear friends and we have shared so many laughs, a few tears, and ton of memories that I wish would continue. It saddens me that my journey with ASB is almost over because you have made this experience so meaningful for me. I have loved our long discussions, our Quidditch match, and our Pink team versus Blue Team games- of course, pink team always won. You all deserve a Whale Done, a Hoorah Hurrah, and some stale candy from the ASB cabinet for being such wonderful “ASBeezys” as we have coined ourselves.
I have been so inspired by your dedication (especially Brian’s) and by your creativity, whether it was the huge mask for the Modern Masquerade or the giant paper mache Strawberry for Air Guitar. You have all offered so much of yourselves for the benefit of the school and you are truly appreciated, at least by me.
Each of you are unique and special and you have all shared your time and talents with ASB on a daily basis- thank you for that. Whether you were always ready to help, like Ashish, or you just always had a positive attitude, like Lizzie- you are all appreciated and I wish that I could do an interpretive dance to express my gratitude and love for you all- remember the WASC visit dance? That was fun.
For the incoming class- you have so much to look forward to. Taylor and Sydney will lead you with laughter and fun and I know that next year’s ASB will be equally successful, if not more so.
ASB has all changed our lives in some way. Whether you have learned more about yourself, built lasting friendships, or learned how to paint a poster (although hopefully you’ve gotten more out of the class than that)- ASB offers something for each of us. For me, it was finding friendship when I needed it most and it was discovering that leadership will be a life-long passion. I hope that you are all able to walk away with something to cherish from ASB that you will keep with you for the rest of your life. These are special days that we should hold on to and not wish away. We need to make the most of each moment as it passes. You have made the moments of my high school career something that I will hold dear forever. It has been an honor to serve beside you and I love you all.
