Shopping in the Fashion District

On Tuesday my mom and I went shopping in the Fashion District in LA. We had a fantastic time and I finally found my Debutante dress! I am really pleased with it and I can't wait to wear it at the ball. We also found my Winter Formal dress along with some other fun pieces. There are so many fun and crazy outfits in LA- especially the hats! My mom and I had some fun with that as you can see!

Buccaneer Bash

Last weekend we went to our final NCL Fundraiser: The Buccaneer Bash! We had such a wonderful time and it was such a great event! My mom was a liaison so we have been preparing for the fundraiser for quite some time. There was a silent auction with all the money donated to charity. I'm not sure how much we made but I know that it was in the thousands! This was also a fabulous night because I got to spend time with my girlfriends on the dance floor! We love to dance to our "Wannabe" theme song and dance. In fact, we were the first ones to start moving! We also had fun just catching up and hearing about each other's college plans. My friend is going to Stanford and I'm very happy for her!

Barack Obama elected President!

I was so excited to see Barack Obama elected as our next President. Even though I don't agree with every single issue, I love his ability as a leader. He has united our country and given our nation a new hope. I feel so proud to live in America and witness this historic time in history. It was so nice watching his acceptance speech with my mom and my grandma- we were all a little teary-eyed.

College Safety Meeting

The other day the Ticktockers met at CSUCI to learn about college safety. An officer met with us to tell us very interesting statistics and safeguards for our future. I learned that college is one of the safest places to be in the world and that you can avoid trouble if you don't make bad decisions. Wow, that was a new idea. I also learned that most accidents are usually alcohol related and happen in a car. Two things that should never be put together! It was a very informational meeting and I loved getting to see my friends. It's always nice to catch up!

Halloween

Wow! Life has been so busy lately that I haven't had much time to post anything. I've been working on college applications a LOT. I'm applying to UCLA, USC, LMU, Stanford, Chapman, and Pepperdine.
Anyway, I had a wonderful Halloween! It was so nice that Halloween fell on a Friday this year; I just couldn't resist throwing a party! Of course I was Barbie and I even convinced Evan to be my Ken! I had about 30 people over and yes, we went trick or treating. We had a great time dancing and just spending time together. I think the event went really well and I hope that everyone had fun.
Not to mention, I had a fantastic day at school. I wore my mom's flapper costume that she wore when she was a senior. We decorated the entire school and it was fun seeing everyone dressed up. We had a costume contest during lunch and a pumpkin carving contest as well. It was such a fun day and this was one of the best Halloweens yet!

Yosemite and Mammoth

This week I spent a three days in Yosemite and Mammoth with my parents. We had such a great time and it was nice to get away from the hustle and bustle and just relax. It was also nice to spend some quality time with my parents. We drove up to Mammoth on Sunday and checked in to the gorgeous Westin hotel! It was beautiful and I took a nap in the "heavenly" bed. We had a delicious dinner at Convict Lake and then my mom and I had fun watching "Stepbrothers" together. We drove through Yosemite on Monday and went on a hike up to Vernal Falls. We also spent time exploring the Awanee hotel- which was quite a place! The best part was seeing a mama bear and two baby bears! It was so precious! We then drove back and went to dinner at Lulu's which was just soso. Unfortunately, because of the economy, not many people have been around in places like Mammoth and that was probably why the service wasn't up to par. On Tuesday morning we headed back and stopped for a second time at Shatz's bakery which is the best bakery in the entire world! They created the original sheepherder bread and it was absolutely delicious. As they say, "Carbs are in!". We then stopped at Mount Whitney and explored there for awhile. We are planning on climbing the peak next year; we'll see how that goes. We had a wonderful time and I can't wait to go back!

School Board Meeting

Last week I got to represent my school at the School Board meeting in City Hall. As ASB President, it is my duty to give a report on the happenings of Foothill. It was so exciting because a bunch of my friends came to watch and I was on TV! The broadcast of the meeting is always aired. I'm always a friend of the Superintendent (our moms went to high school together) so it was nice to see her. Check out the plaque they make for me!

Hillside Festival

Our city is all about preserving our hillsides. It has become a tradition to hold a concert each year to raise funds and awareness for this cause. More than 1,000 people gather for this event and it is a wonderful way to be apart of the community. There are always a plethora of bands present- this year there was Little Feat, Taj Mahal, and Mason Jennings. In years past we have had Jackson Brown and Jack Johnson. It is always a good time and I love getting to see everyone!

Air Show

A couple weeks ago, I went with my family to the Camarillo airshow. Our friends just bought the local restaurant there so we were busy helping them! It was a beautiful day and we had a great time together. It's always nice to spend a little extra time with my family because I don't get too very often lately. What a beautiful day it was!

Artwork

Life has been crazy lately! Senior year is so hectic but so exciting at the same time. I am just trying to soak it all in. I thought I'd post some of my recent artwork- I have discovered that I really enjoy drawing. In the midst of a busy schedule, it is an escape for me. Hope you enjoy!

Practicing Painting

Last weekend I gathered with my NCL friends to paint a picture for community service. We had a wonderful time chit chatting and catching up and we especially enjoyed getting to paint! I never realized how much I enjoy partaking in art!

UCLA vs. USC

Earlier this summer I visited UCLA and USC- all in the same day! My mom and I have been going on many visits this summer and we have enjoyed them all. UCLA and USC were both beautiful campuses and I am planning on applying to them both. UCLA was such a large campus- I felt like an ant there. However, the architecture was absolutely stunning and it has the ambiance of the classic college. USC was equally impressive; especially their film program, which is #1 in the nation. It will be an exciting year no doubt!

ASB Training

As the new ASB President it was my responsibility to host and plan ASB training. Our theme this year is to "Get into the Game!", so it was a sports theme which was perfect considering the Beijing Olympics. My mom and I bought amazing decorations and the room looked great! We played a ton of fun icebreakers. We played tug-of-war, quad kickball, huggy bear, the toilet paper game, and the water bucket carrying game. That probably sounds like gibberish to anyone who's not in ASB- but it was a ton of fun! We had a great business meeting and everyone was really focused and respectful. I am working with an amazing group of students who are hard working, funny, and kind. I am in for a great year!
After the "training" portion of the event (which included poster making and project planning) we had even more fun! We played sardines, Murder in the Dark (it's not violent, I promise), and freeze tag. Later that night we all headed over to my house for a pool party and sleepover. I couldn't believe that I had 25 students in my home! I didn't mind, but I'm thankful that my dad was okay with it! We were up till 4 am so I'm a little tired. I'm grateful that the event was such a success and I'm looking forward to a great year!

California International Pageant

Last weekend my mom and I traveled to Palm Springs to watch the annual California International pageants. It's always fun to see my "pageant sisters" and catch up. We also went to cheer on my friend, Hilary, who was competing for the title of Miss California International. She wanted to win so bad and we were so proud of her when lo and behold- she won! We were cheering, crying, and hooting for her and it was such a thrilling moment for all of us. I'm so glad that we could be apart of it. Although it was 110 degrees outside, we still had a great time!

Gracie's 1st Birthday!

Last weekend we celebrated sweet Gracie's first birthday! She is so adorable and she is already walking so much! It was a wonderful reunion with family and we all had fun talking and catching up. I got Gracie her first Barbie doll- you have to start them out young! It was a great event and I loved hanging out with everyone!

Beach House

It has always been a yearly tradition for my family to spend a week out at the beach house. It is always an opportunity for me to just relax and have fun- I only wish that I could stay longer! I enjoyed just watching the waves and sitting out in the sun- although I got way too sun burnt! I went boogie boarding while Evan went surfing-though the waves were pretty lousy. One of the nights, I had my friends come out and we had a fun taco night. We played the game of life and sat by the campfire. Sitting by the campfire is one of the my favorite parts of the day because it is a chance to wind down, have some great laughs, and get back in touch with my family.
My friend Alexis also came out to visit and we had such a great time catching up and remembering old times. We are both going to be debutantes and I'm so excited to share that experience with her!
On our last day, a pelican came onto our patio and relaxed for about a half hour. I thought he was sick because it looked like he couldn't fly- we even called Animal Control! But of course, as soon as I called, the bird flew away. I named him Earl. Go figure.
I spent much of my time painting (okay, it was a paint by number, but a painting nonetheless). I truly loved my time out at the beach and I can't wait till next year!

Kevin Costner Visits!

Last weekend, Kevin Costner made a visit to Ventura! He grew up in our city and went to Buena High School. He had a special premiere at our theater for his new movie, "Swing Vote". My mom has a friend that knows Kevin personally, so she got to go to the premiere and attend the special cocktail parties with Mr. Costner. I even got a special magazine where he signed it and addressed it to me! To celebrate the new movie, Kevin Costner's band, Modern West, played in the middle of California and Main Street. There were a ton of people there and they put on a great show! I got to sit in the VIP section because my mom had the connection- that was awesome. It was a great night- thank you Kevin Costner!

Project Understanding

My mom and I volunteered earlier this summer at Project Understanding. We helped sort cans and give food to the poor in the food pantry. It was a humbling experience for me and I felt privileged to help. We also donated birthday party bags for children that can't have a birthday party because their parent's can't afford it. I hope to volunteer at Project Understanding again in the near future- I love helping others.

Chapman University

My mom and I also visited Chapman University in Orange County. I loved this campus- especially since it's so close to Disneyland! The campus looked so clean and beautiful. The library is five stories high and I loved the environment. Unfortunately, it is three people to a dorm which is something I'm not so crazy about. I'm hoping that I could work at Disneyland as a princess if I get in- that would be so much fun! I'm definitely going to apply so we'll see how it goes!

Loyola Marymount University

Earlier this summer, my mom and I visited Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. The campus was quite spacious and very beautiful. I was very impressed with the layout and I loved the general atmosphere. The school is Catholic, which is okay, but not quite up my alley since I'm Protestant. They had an amazing gym and fitness center- it was huge! Students can have personal trainers, a massage therapist, and a nutritionist- I thought that was awesome! The dorms are newly renovated and they look great! I loved the cafeteria with a Jamba Juice next door! It was a great campus and I will be sure to apply there. We'll see!

Pepperdine University

It's been awhile since I've written! I've been busy taking an online statistics course while taking SAT training sessions. All in all, it's been a pretty relaxing summer- although I want more time! Earlier this summer, my mom and I went on a bunch of college campus visits. Our first tour was at Pepperdine University, which I absolutely loved! Of course, it was a spectacular campus in terms of the view- who doesn't love Malibu? They have an amazing overseas program; over 60% of their students study abroad. I would love to learn in Florence, Italy- I have always wanted to go there. I'm still not sure about what I want to major in, but they have a fantastic business program if I decide to go into that. The dorms are spacious and clean and they have plenty of programs to get involved with. I love the Christian influence on campus- students are required to attend chapel every week. I'm definitely going to apply to Pepperdine- I hope that I get in!

4th of July!

I had the best 4th of July- it was amazing! We were invited to come over to our friend's house for a beautiful day in Malibu. It was the perfect way to celebrate our country and the company made the day even more special! We all had a great time talking and eating a delicious rib dinner and we later devoured plenty of deserts. (At least I did). The fireworks show was the best that I have ever seen and my favorite part was when the smiley face fireworks appeared in the sky- very impressive! I couldn't think of a better way to give thanks for our freedom!

Mexico Cruise

OMG! I just got back from my Mexico cruise and I had the time of my life! I have been so stressed out this year with finals, AP tests, and every other imaginable test, and this was the perfect vacation. I went with my fellow Ticktockers in National Charity League for our Senior Trip and we had a blast! Even though it was only for three days, it was a great escape and a wonderful way to relieve the stress. The weather was perfect and I got a little tan and a lot of sunburn! We left Long Beach on Friday and we arrived by limousine- very fashionable and fun! We had a delicious dinner and we went to a hilarious comedian later that night. They had a wonderful Jamaican band and we had fun dancing to that. We arrived in Ensenada, Mexico on Saturday and my mom and I did some great shopping. I even got to learn how to weave a blanket! I was saddened to see all the poverty of the children; it made me all the more grateful for what I have and I was humbled by the experience. I have been studying Spanish for three years so it was amazing to immerse myself in the culture and speak the language in a real situation. I was a little disappointed to learn that all the natives spoke English though. I wanted to practice more! We had a lovely formal night later that day and it was fun seeing everyone get dressed up. After a delicious dinner, we went to a great show with Motown music and then we sang at the Karaoke club. We sang "Wannabe" by the Spice Girls- that was definitely one of the highlights of the trip! Later, we went to the midnight buffet and danced till the wee hours of the morning. Not to mention, we had fun in our mini ping pong tournament! On Sunday, we had a day at sea. It was pretty funny- we just dropped anchor in the Pacific Ocean and sat in the sea all day. I laid out in the sun and simply relaxed- which is a concept that seems newfangled these days. We watched a belly flop contest while enjoying a poolside BBQ. We had a yummy dinner later that night and we went to an amazing show called, "You Can't Stop the Beat" which featured a lot of the classic songs that I love with phenomenal dancing. We then went to a late night comedy show which was hilarious! We had such an amazing time during our trip- I just wish that it could have lasted longer!

Presidential Inaugeration

On Thursday night I was officially inaugerated as next year's ASB President. It is such an honor for me to represent my school in this way and I'm looking forward to the experience. This year's ASB President, Alex Castillo, showered me with plenty of interesting gifts that somehow related to ASB (even kitty litter). It was a wonderful time to remember the memories and look forward to next year. I've attached my speech so that you could see what I had to say that night!

Good evening everyone. We all know that ASB stands for Associate Student Body, however when I reflect on the past year a new definition of ASB comes to mind. “Always Staying Busy” seems to be a perfect fit when considering the hours spent with MORP, Renaissance Rallies, and Air Guitar. We have utilized our time with the utmost efficiency and the student body has benefited because of this. I have had some wonderful memories and I’ve made life long friendships that I will always treasure. In this past year, I have seen the endless possibilites that leadership provides and I have seen immense growth in each and every one of you. You have inspired me with your individual talents and it will be such a privilege to serve you next year as your ASB President. I promise you that I will continue Foothill’s success with my motivation and of course, my organizational skills.
I would not be standing here without the companionship, loyalty, and trust that I shared with my fellow ASB friends. I have to admit that high school has provided some challenging times, but these have been trials short lived thanks to all of you. It was with your friendship and encouragement that I discovered the meaning of determination and self confidence. I can honestly say that ASB has shaped me into the young woman that I am today and it has enabled me to become a braver and more compassionate person.
I have never seen such dedication to a school, and I have never experienced such enthusiasm from sixteen year olds. I’m proud to say that our class put judgements aside and truly bonded. Whether it was playing flag football at Arroyo Verde Park or walking laps in the wee hours of the morning at Relay for Life, we had a powerful team that has been unstoppable and unbreakable this year.
I have to give a special thanks to the senior class. I will be a senior next year, which can be a bit overwhelming at times, yet these students have been the role models that have shaped a huge part of my life. Mitchell, Allison, Emily, Emily, Kerri, Amanda, and Max, you have served Foothill with a compassion that is undeniable. Destiny, you have helped lead the class with dignity and your strength motivates me. And Alex, you have been a best friend to me and a wonderful ASB President. We have shared some great laughs and I know that I have big shoes to fill when you go to Chapman.
To everyone that served in ASB this previous year, I commend you on all of your accomplishments and I congratulate you on a job well done. You have become some of my best friends and seeing you during ASB every week has been one of the highlights of my year. I couldn’t have asked for a better group of students to work with, and it is such an empowering feeling to be surrounded by the brightest and kindest students of Foothill. And to the incoming class, I am greatly looking forward to working with you. Our theme next year is to “Get Into the Game” and I know that will be possible if we are willing to take risks, trust one another, and most importanly, have fun. I can’t wait for next year and I have a strong faith that the strides made this year will only continue in Foothill’s future. Thank you.

NCL Tea

Last weekend was the annual National Charity League tea and I had a wonderful time. I can't believe that I will be a senior in a few short months and I'm thrilled and scared at the same time. It was both a sad and happy time watching my mom pass on the gavel to the next president, Jennifer Madden. My mom has been the best president and I'm so extremely proud of her. She is the most dedicated, loving, and compassionate woman and I feel so blessed to have her as a mother. She has made great strides for National Charity League and she has served with a devotion that is unmatched.
Jennifer Madden will be a wonderful president as well. Her theme is "Faith, trust, and pixie dust". A Disney fanatic like myself, it was only fitting that her theme revolve around Disney. She gave Mickey Mouse hats to her board and the event was topped off when Minnie Mouse arrived.
Another special moment was when I accepted the gavel as Senior Class President. I am honored to hold this position and I look forward to serving my class. What a day! It was beautiful outside and it was wonderful to see my NCL friends!
